Sbr Food

Food-grade styrene butadiene rubber is the elastomer used as the base polymer in chewing gum base and in a number of food-contact applications. The grades in this section are supplied to gum base manufacturers, confectionery producers and food-contact processors who need a consistent polymer input rather than a general-purpose rubber.

WUXI HASEN IMPORT AND EXPORT CO., LTD supplies food-grade SBR as an export partner working with production plants in China. We do not manufacture the polymer and we do not compound it: our work is to identify the grade that matches what your line was set up for, source it from the plant that produces it, check the batch documentation before shipment, and handle packing, shipping and export paperwork so the material arrives traceable and usable.

What food-grade SBR is

Styrene butadiene rubber is a copolymer of styrene and butadiene. The food grades are produced and handled to a specification intended for chewing gum base and food-contact use, which shifts the emphasis away from the mechanical performance an industrial rubber compound would be judged on and towards consistent properties, controlled handling and complete batch records.

Because "SBR" is a family name rather than a single material, the useful question is never whether a supplier can offer it. It is which grade, produced to which specification, supplied with which batch documentation, and how closely the next delivery matches the last one on the properties your process actually depends on.

Where it is used

  • Chewing gum base - the primary application, where the polymer provides the chew and the cohesion of the base.
  • Bubble gum base - a related but distinct compounding target, with different requirements for elasticity and film formation.
  • Food-contact applications - uses where the polymer forms part of a material intended to come into contact with food.

Grade selection: what actually matters

Two suppliers can quote the same product name and deliver materials that behave differently on your line. The comparison that protects a buyer looks at:

  • The producer's grade code - a specific code you can reorder, not a generic description.
  • Batch-to-batch consistency - the property that decides whether your compounding line runs unchanged or has to be re-set on every delivery.
  • Handling history - how the material has been stored and protected since production, which matters as much as the specification on paper.
  • Documentation - technical data plus the certificate of analysis for the actual batch, not a generic specification sheet.
  • Packing and pallet configuration - carton weight, pallet build and the storage conditions the grade is designed for.

Documentation and batch traceability

For food-contact materials, documentation is part of the product rather than an accessory to it. We supply the technical data sheet and the batch certificate of analysis with the shipment and keep the batch reference so a later question can be answered against the same record.

Where your market requires specific declarations, compliance statements or translations, tell us before the order is placed rather than after the container has shipped. Some declarations can be issued at the plant before dispatch and cannot be created retrospectively, and we will say plainly when a statement you have asked for is not available rather than substitute a similar-sounding one.

Packing, storage and shelf life

Food-grade SBR is supplied as a solid in cartons and pallets. It is sensitive to heat, direct sunlight and contamination during storage, and the storage conditions on the data sheet are there for a reason: material kept outside them can pass every incoming test and still process differently. Container loading also matters. A carton stack that shifts in transit damages the polymer even when the outer packaging looks undamaged, so we confirm the loading plan rather than assume it.

Supply continuity

The single most disruptive event in a compounding operation is a silent change of grade or source. A polymer that arrives under the same name but from a different production route can force a full re-setting of the line, and the cost of that shows up across several batches rather than one.

We treat a change of source as a decision to be raised with you in advance, and we keep a route back to the same grade and the same production plant for repeat orders. Where a grade is discontinued or unavailable, we will tell you before the shipment is booked, not after it arrives.

How we work with you as a supplier

Our contribution is on the specification, sourcing, documentation and logistics side of the transaction:

  • Requirement definition - we start from your application, your processing route and the declarations your market requires.
  • Grade matching - we work from the grade code and documentation you already use, so a replacement matches the input your line was set up for.
  • Batch verification - certificate of analysis checked against the batch actually shipped.
  • Documentation - packing lists, invoices and shipping papers prepared to match the consignment.
  • Consolidated shipping - materials and equipment combined into one shipment where the plan allows.
  • Continuity - the same grade from the same source for the next order, or advance notice when that is not possible.

Frequently asked questions

Can I evaluate a sample before committing to a container?
Yes. Small quantities for evaluation are normal business for us. Tell us which properties the sample has to prove and we will confirm what the producer can supply.

Are all SBR grades suitable for chewing gum base?
No. Gum base requires food grades produced and handled to a food-contact specification. Industrial SBR that happens to share the family name is not a substitute.

Does the certificate of analysis cover the batch I receive?
It should, and ours does. Ask any supplier for batch-specific documentation; a generic specification sheet does not tell you anything about the material in the container.

Can you hold a grade for repeat orders?
Yes, and it is the main reason buyers stay with one supplier for this material. We keep the grade reference and the production source so reorders match rather than merely resemble the previous delivery.

Talk to us about your food-grade SBR requirement

Send us the grade code you currently use, the application, and the declarations your market requires. We will come back with what is available, what the documentation covers and the questions that still need answers before a quotation is meaningful.
