In grain processing, an EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) or turnkey package means one party takes responsibility for delivering a working line instead of a set of separate machines. Engineering covers the flow sheet, layouts and drawings. Procurement covers sourcing the machines and parts that match the flow sheet. Construction and installation cover putting the equipment in place, connecting it and commissioning it until it runs. At handover the line should be able to mill cleaned, conditioned wheat to the flour grade the mill is selling.
It helps to separate what a package contains from who performs each part. A buyer can contract a full turnkey line, or split engineering, civil work, equipment supply and installation across different parties. WUXI HASEN's role sits in requirement definition, machine and part matching, inspection before shipment, documentation, consolidated shipping and after-sales support. The equipment side can therefore be covered even when civil, electrical and erection work is carried out by other contractors on the same site.
| Duty | Equipment that performs it | What the duty decides |
|---|---|---|
| Wheat intake and cleaning | receiving hopper, sieve, destoner, magnetic separator | how much foreign matter reaches the mill |
| Scouring and conditioning | wheat scourer, dampener, moisture controller | how cleanly the bran separates during milling |
| Break and reduction | roller mill, plansifter | flour particle size and the extraction the line can reach |
| Purification | purifier | how much bran and offal stay out of the finished flour |
| Bran handling | bran finisher, bran discharger | how much flour is recovered from the bran stream |
| Conveying and balancing | screw or belt conveyors, flow balancer | how steady the feed stays across the line |
| Packing | flour packing machine | bag weight and the finished product interface |
| Item | Package owner | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Grain and product specification | Buyer | sets the cleaning, conditioning and extraction assumptions |
| Flow sheet and equipment selection | Supplier side | matched to the duty, not to a fixed catalogue |
| Civil foundations and buildings | Buyer or local contractor | must match the machine loads and clearances on the drawings |
| Power supply and electrical installation | Buyer or local contractor | voltage, frequency and capacity must match the motors and drives |
| Water and compressed air | Buyer | needed for conditioning, cleaning and controls |
| Installation and erection labour | Either, as agreed | scope must be explicit, not assumed |
| Inspection and documentation | Supplier side | inspection report, packing list, invoice, bill of lading |
| Training and spare parts route | Both | handover should name who trains and who reorders |
The failures on a turnkey line rarely come from the machines themselves. They come from interfaces nobody wrote down. The common ones are power quality at the plant, dust extraction, compressed air, the boundary of cable and pipe runs, and whether the first fill of wear parts is inside or outside the supply scope. Two more items are worth naming early: who runs the performance test at handover and against which flour grade, and who holds spare parts after the warranty period. Writing these into the scope before the order avoids arguments later. For the machine groups a line is assembled from, see Flour-Mill-Machines.
Inspection before shipment has two jobs: to confirm the machine matches the approved drawing, and to leave a record the buyer can compare against what arrives. A practical package is a dimensional inspection report, a functional no-load run, and photographs of each item as packed and marked. The transport set should include the packing list, the commercial invoice, the bill of lading and a certificate of origin, with ISPM 15 marking on wood packaging.
They are used almost interchangeably in grain processing. EPC names the three functions, engineering, procurement and construction; turnkey describes the outcome, that the buyer receives a line ready to run. A package can cover all three or only some of them, so the scope has to be read, not assumed.
Yes. Many projects split civil, electrical and erection work locally while the machines, parts and documentation come through the export supplier. What matters is that every interface is written down and an owner is named for it.
A packing list, a commercial invoice, a bill of lading, a certificate of origin and an inspection report. Wood packaging should carry the ISPM 15 mark.
The handover list should name the wear parts, the reorder route and the details needed to match them, such as dimensions, photographs or part numbers. Keeping that list with the drawings makes later reordering faster.
