Turnkey 240 t/day Maize Flour Mill Project in Zambia

What does this project record cover?

This page records a turnkey maize flour mill project in Zambia with a capacity of 240 tonnes per day. The project covered two locations, Monze and Mpika, and the work was agreed in November 2021, with construction and installation commencing on 15 December 2021. The sections below set out the scope a line of this size involves, the order the work runs in, and the inputs the buyer prepares on site, so a new project can be planned against a practical checklist.

Maize milling is not one machine but a sequence of duties, and at 240 tonnes per day every duty has to be sized to the grain being milled and to the flour grade being sold. WUXI HASEN worked on this project as a supplier and export partner: defining the requirement from the buyer's duty, matching machines and parts to it, inspecting before shipment, preparing documentation, consolidating the shipping and supporting the plant after commissioning.

What scope does a 240 tonne per day maize line cover?

DutyTypical equipmentWhat the duty decides
Intake and weighingreceiving hopper, feed conveyor, coarse screenhow evenly the line is fed and where the mass balance starts
Cleaning and destoningvibrating sifter, destoner, magnetic separatorhow much stone, metal and foreign matter reaches the mill
Degerminationmaize degermer, aspirator, germ separatorhow cleanly germ and hull leave the endosperm before reduction
Milling and reductionroller mill or hammer mill, plansifterflour particle size and the extraction the line can reach
Sifting and gradingplansifter, purifierhow flour grades are split and how much returns to reduction
Conveying and dosingscrew or belt conveyors, flow balancerhow steady the feed stays through each stage
Packingflour packing machine, bagging scalebag weight accuracy and the finished product interface

In what order does the work run?

  1. Write the duty down first. Grain type, target capacity, flour grade and site conditions are agreed before any machine is chosen.
  2. Survey the site. Power supply, buildings, floor space and access decide what can physically be installed.
  3. Build the flow sheet. Each duty is placed in sequence and the machine for that duty is sized to the capacity.
  4. Issue foundation and civil drawings. Machine loads, clearances and service space are handed to the builder.
  5. Source and match. Machines and parts are matched to the flow sheet, then checked before they leave.
  6. Ship and document. Packing, marking and the transport documents are prepared together.
  7. Install and commission. Equipment is positioned, aligned, connected and run through its duty.
  8. Hand over. Operators are briefed, the spare parts route is agreed and a running check list is handed over.

What does the buyer have to supply on site?

ItemWhy it mattersUsually the buyer's side
Maizegrain type, moisture and foreign matter set the cleaning and degermination load
Power supplyvoltage, frequency and available capacity must match the motors and drives
Civil workfoundations, floors and buildings carry the machine loads
Waterconditioning and cleaning need a reliable supply
Local labour and liftingunloading, positioning and rigging when the equipment arrives
Storagesilo or warehouse space for grain in and finished bags out
Permits and clearanceimport documents, duty and local approvals
Utilities and a parts storerunning supplies and a dry place to keep wear parts

Why do two sites change the plan?

Monze and Mpika sit far apart, so the same 240 tonnes per day was delivered as two separate installations. Each site needs its own receiving, storage, milling and packing arrangement, its own power connection and its own commissioning run. Spare parts are split or held where they can reach both sites. Even where the flow sheet is similar, the layout, civil drawings and shipping plan are prepared per site, and commissioning is repeated at each.

What should be checked before shipment?

On a multi-site project, inspection before shipment is what stops one missing part from becoming a delay at the port. The checks that matter are dimensional spot checks against the approved drawings, a functional no-load run of each machine, and a photographic record of the item as packed. The buyer should make the packing list, the commercial invoice and the bill of lading agree with each other, and should ask for wood packaging to carry the ISPM 15 mark. A certificate of origin is normally needed for clearance. The same list is used on arrival to confirm nothing was damaged in transit. Replacement and wear parts for the line move through the same channel as the machines; see Flour-Mill-Parts for the parts group.

FAQ

What was the capacity and location of this project?

A 240 tonne per day maize flour mill project in Zambia, delivered across two sites, Monze and Mpika.

When did the project start?

The work was agreed in November 2021, and construction and installation commenced on 15 December 2021.

Is a maize line the same as a wheat flour line?

No. Maize milling puts the emphasis on degermination and hull removal before reduction, because germ and bran have to be separated from the endosperm. A wheat line instead conditions the grain with water and lets it temper so the bran lifts cleanly.

Who supplies the machines for a project like this?

WUXI HASEN supplies machines, spare parts and complete grain processing lines as a supplier and export partner, including parts that fit equipment built by other suppliers. The role covers requirement definition, matching, inspection, documentation, consolidated shipping and after-sales support rather than building the machines.

What documents should a buyer ask for?

A packing list, a commercial invoice, a bill of lading, a certificate of origin and an inspection report, with ISPM 15 marking on wooden packaging.
